Buenos Aires: A Love Affair

Buenos Aires: A Love Affair

Bleary eyed after 48 hours of straight travel, at one o’clock in the morning I wasn’t looking my best for my first blind date.  At least I was on time as everything in Argentina runs late, as in really late.  But if my first impressions are any indication of what’s to come then call off the search because I found the one.  In fact, forget the rest of my plans I’m moving to Argentina.  After just one day roaming the vibrant streets of the capital I can say it was love at first sight.

The date started with dinner.  Everyone knows spaghetti is to be avoided as it’s just too messy.  So we opted for steak instead.  It wasn’t hard to find a table with a view and the mouth-watering barbecue smells wafting out of the kitchen were very inviting.  We indulged in a gluttonous feast of sirloin steak, lamb and more steak.  It was delicious.  To top it off, I broke my rule of no drinking on first dates because beer was only $3 per liter.  Things were going so well I could already feel myself falling hard.

After our decadent dinner we headed out to take in the street art.  Animated robots, political messages and bright colors pop against the cement walls of every building.  The sketches and brilliant images that turn every home into a working canvas made our stroll so much more romantic and provided easy conversation fodder.  We were really hitting it off now.

Just when I was thinking things couldn’t get any better and starting to doubt my luck of finding such a perfect match on a blind date, we took in a tango show.  The sexy dancing and sensual atmosphere sealed the deal.  I was head over heals in love with Buenos Aires.  I’m done seeing other cities and being a worldly vagabond, I want to settle in Buenos Aires to eat meat, drink cheap beer and stare at the tango dancers legs for the rest of my life.

Amor es Vida, love is life and nowhere is that more true than in Buenos Aires.  If you don’t fall in love with Buenos Aires than buy some land in the country because cities aren’t your thing.  The vibrant colors, delicious smells, picture-perfect weather and the energy of this city hooked me from day one.  How can you not fall in love with art in the streets, a barbecue around every corner, $3 beer and the home of the world’s sexiest dance: Tango.  Buenos Aires is a love affair I’m going to pursue.
