Magnetic Island
Townsville is Australia’s largest urban center north of the Sunshine Coast and its main attraction is the Great Barrier Reef. Magnetic Island is an island only 5 miles offshore from the city of Townsville, Queensland, Australia. The mountainous island in Cleveland Bay has effectively become a suburb of Townsville, with just over 2,000 permanent residents. We stayed on “Maggie” as the locals refer to the island and enjoyed the secluded beaches, wonderful views and the resident koalas as well as a trip out to the Great Barrier Reef where we were blown away by the marine life.
