Jaisalmer

Nicknamed the “golden city” Jaisalmer is a popular stop for travelers through Rajasthan. The town stands on a ridge of yellow sandstone, crowned by the Jaisalmer Fort, which contains the palace and several ornate Jain temples. Many of the houses and temples are finely sculptured, with havelis or mansions left from the time of the Maharajahs. It lies in the heart of the Thar Desert and has a population of about 78,000. This is where we kicked off our Rajasthan tour.
