Monywa is a city in Sagaing Division, Myanmar, located on the eastern bank of the River Chindwin. It was just a stop-over on the way to Bagan, but we got to see the largest reclining Buddha in the world among other temples and sights.

A carnival of colors and home to over 500,000 Buddhas, Thanboddhay Paya, is a great example of the blending of Islamic and Buddhist designs in Myanmar.

Every nook and cranny is filled with Buddhas (Thanboddhay Paya).

Bodhi Tataung, which means 10,000 Buddhas features a 423 foot standing Buddha and a 312 foot reclining Buddha

For a reason, unknown to us, there are thousands of Buddhas dedicated to Korea surrounding the Paya.

Standing as the tallest Buddha in Myanmar is no small achievement. Each rectangle on the body is actually a window for each floor within Buddha.
