The folks at Thomas Cook have put together a photography contest focusing on the elements of nature. Since I love photography and I’m always looking for an excuse to cull through our travel photos, I of course had to find my favorites to submit into the contest! #ExploreTheElements Here’s my 4 favorites that capture the essence of nature’s elements: Earth, Water, Fire and Air.
Earth Guidelines: stubbornness, collectiveness , physicality and gravity The gorgeous Santa Cruz Trek in Peru is a hiker’s heaven on earth, with huge mountains rising on either side of you as make your way through the valley formed by the Cordillera Blanca, one of the most concentrated collections of big peaks in the Western Hemisphere, with 33 summits topping 18,000 feet and 16 over 19,500 feet, including 22,205-foot Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru. Earth is rising all around you and you really realize your physical size in comparison the majestic peaks as you hike.
Water Guidelines: Fluid, flowing, formless things in the world Associated with emotion, defensiveness, adaptability, flexibility, suppleness, and magnetism I knew for the water element I would find the perfect photo in our Antarctica collection as it is as if a mountain range was flooded, ice bergs float in the water and everything reflects beautifully in the mirror created by the Lamaire Channel pictured above.
Fire Guidelines: energetic, forceful, moving things in the world Associated with security, motivation, desire, intention, and an outgoing spirit My fire photo is from the Ganga Aarti held daily in the evening at the Dashashwamedh ghat in Varanasi. Each night an “Agni Pooja” (Worship to Fire) is performed, which is a dedication made to Lord Shiva, River Ganga (the Ganges), Surya (Sun), Agni (Fire), and the whole universe. The Worship to Fire is a very intentional performance and one that has to be experienced in person!
Air Guidelines: things that grow, expand, and enjoy freedom of movement associated with will, elusiveness, evasiveness, benevolence, compassion, and wisdom The low hanging clouds and mist coming off the Grey Glacier in Torres del Paine hide the ever elusive rainbow in the distance, this photo embodies air and reminds me of one of my favorite mornings of hiking ever! .
I nominate 5 of my fellow bloggers to also Explore the Elements and submit their photos to the competition.
Stephanie and Tony at 20 Years Hence, I would love to see this photographically gifted couple share their take on the four elements
Bethany at twoOregonians has a great eye for composition and would have a beautiful take on the four elements
I’m sure Jody at Legal Nomads has excellent photo essays so I know she would have beautiful photos to share for this contest
Kim at So Many Places may not have a lot of time for photography with all of her life changes, but is such a gifted story teller it would be fun to see what photos she would share for this contest.
Kate at Adventurous Kate has really gotten into photography and probably has some great Nicaragua shots to share
