He Said-She Said: 2012 Favorite Photo

He Said-She Said: 2012 Favorite Photo

As quickly as the year passed, we hope neither the memories nor the photos will fade too quickly.  The statistics for 2012? 12 countries, 18,000 photos, and one marriage still intact.  Traveling and photographing is a hard job, but we’re glad to be able to do it, even if it pays nothing, costs a lot, and causes much stress.  We’ve each revealed our Top 10 photos (see LOCAVORista’s here and thinkCHUA’s here), but out of 18,000 photos which one is our favorite?  Well, as married people know, it’s easier to choose for yourself than try to decide on one together, so here they are.

The Pyramids were on my very short list of things I wanted to see while traveling around the world.  The list was so short the only other thing is Antarctica.  It took us almost two years to get there, but they were astonishingly huge, you have to see them to believe.  While other sights in Egypt may exhibit more art, architecture and history, nothing beats standing in front of the Pyramids.  This photo including a camel-mounted policeman at sunset captures the exotic scene that have entranced visitors for millennia.

SHE SAID…

Choosing one favorite photo from the past year was tough, but I was continually drawn back to the India album with the vibrant colors, spiritual scenes and the vivid memories they would conjure up. India is unlike any other place on earth with many countries in one.  This photo is from “Little Tibet” in the Northwest of the country in Ladakh.  I was able to attend a traditional Buddhist festival at Phyang Monastery where costumed dancers invoke the deities that accompany a person during the forty-nine days it takes for the soul to journey from death to reincarnation.  It was an incredible experience and a much preferred way to face death.

Looking at the photos from the past year brings me back to a specific place and time and remind me how fortunate we are to be living our big IF of seeing the world.  Once again we have captured some incredible moments in the past year and our photos will forever remind us of this incredible journey from world wonders to time honored traditions.  I can only imagine what 2013 will bring.
