He Said/She Said: Favorite Blogs

Blogs are the only reading we get to do by choice.  While we are forced to choose books from what’s available, through the magic of RSS we get to subscribe to what we want and read them through Google Reader on our phone and laptop.  Given the simplicity to subscribe/unsubscribe, the blogs we subscribe to really reflect what we are finding interesting to read.  Here are the blogs we enjoy and recommend subscribing to.

HE SAID…

.

I follow blogs that teach me things.  Since most of my time, effort and research involves travel I actually don’t follow many travel blogs, rather I cast a wider net to stay informed.

Seth’s Blog shares thought-provoking commentary on innovation and strategy.  Great for people who want to create something new, understand how people think and how to get people excited about what you’re working on.  Best of all, the short posts make following him easy.

zenhabits teaches us about one of the most important things in life: habit formation.  Much of our lives are spent forming habits then trying to undo them, zenhabits teaches how to stop doing unnecessary things, focus on what’s important, and become what you want to be.

HBR.org is the antithesis of Seth’s Blog and zenhabits.  While their short posts provide insights into what’s next, HBR provides more depth to what’s happened and why.  Written by Harvard Business School researchers and associates, it provides great information for people managing businesses as small as a family to as large as a country.

These three blogs are my “most read” as they offer me insights into how things work, how I can do better, and how to do more in the future.

SHE SAID…

.

The blogs I follow focus on food and fashion, two things that aren’t available to me on the road staying in hostels without kitchens and traveling out of a backpack with just a couple changes of clothes.

101 cookbooks focuses on fresh and delicious vegetarian recipes.  Heidi realized after amassing a collection of over 100 cookbooks that it was time to start cooking.  Her site shares wonderful recipes with natural ingredients, she also writes about her travels, shares her photography and other interesting tidbits she finds on the internet.  Her archive is extensive and searchable by ingredient!

With food photography like this, you’ll soon be a fan of Cannelle et Vanille too!

Cannelle et Vanille is simply the most gorgeous food blog on the internet. Aran is a trained pastry chef, incredibly talented food stylist and photographer as well as an inspired gluten free chef.  Her food pictures are mouth wateringly amazing and her recipes will make you want to go gluten free.

The Sartorialist provides people watching from the comfort of your couch.  I am no fashionista, but I love seeing what people wear out and about as well as the crazy runway fashions.  This is the perfect blog for non-fashion folks whom appreciate a good ensemble.

Since travel is our life, we enjoy these blogs to get a wider perspective of life outside the travel blogging circuit.  Let us know what your favorite blogs are.
